As America emerged from World War II, returning servicemen brought home technical knowledge gained from military electronics training. In this era of optimism and innovation, our founder opened Metro TV's doors in Lincoln, Nebraska, specializing in the most advanced consumer technology of the day: television repair.
In 1947, television was cutting-edge. Only a few thousand American households owned a TV set, and repairing the complex vacuum tube circuitry required genuine expertise. We were there at the beginning, building our reputation one repair at a time.
As television evolved from black-and-white to color, from tubes to transistors to integrated circuits, we evolved with it. We repaired everything from 1950s console TVs to 1980s VCRs, building deep knowledge of electronic systems that few repair shops could match.
Lincoln families came to trust us because we didn't just replace parts—we understood how electronics worked. That philosophy remains our foundation today.
In the mid-1990s, we merged with Audio Tech, Lincoln's premier high-fidelity audio repair specialist. This partnership brought together two complementary skill sets: our television electronics expertise and Audio Tech's mastery of stereo systems, receivers, amplifiers, and turntables.
The merger expanded our capabilities and deepened our commitment to quality electronics service. We became Metro TV & Appliance, positioning ourselves for the digital age while maintaining our passion for vintage audio equipment that audiophiles cherish.
As the new millennium arrived, we recognized a fundamental shift: appliances were becoming computers. Refrigerators, washers, ovens, and dishwashers were suddenly packed with microprocessors, circuit boards, sensors, and digital controls.
Other appliance repair shops struggled with the electronics. We thrived. Our decades of experience diagnosing complex circuitry gave us a unique advantage. We expanded into appliance repair, quickly earning factory authorizations from major manufacturers who recognized our electronic expertise.
